A Starbucks Reserve Grant supported infrastructure and water sanitation improvements.
The Clinica Materno Infantil in Corquin, Copan plays a crucial role in the well-being of local communities, especially coffee producers and their families. Serving 800-1,000 patients per month, including men, women, and children, the clinic is a vital resource for those in need of medical assistance. However, due to limited government support, the clinic faces significant challenges in maintaining essential services, particularly in water sanitation.
Thanks to a Starbucks Reserve Grant in 2022, Volcafé’s local company, Molinos de Honduras, partnered with Starbucks to improve the clinic’s water sanitation system. The collaboration enabled the construction of a new cistern, ensuring a continuous and reliable water supply – essential for the clinic’s operations and for safeguarding the health of the families it serves.
In addition to the water system improvements, other essential upgrades were made, including the renovation of the clinic's bathrooms, the installation of a new pump for the cistern, and the purchase of tires for the clinic’s ambulance. These changes not only enhance the clinic’s capacity to provide care but also help improve the overall environment for patients and staff.
This project, first supported by Starbucks in 2022, has made a significant impact on the clinic and its beneficiaries. By providing access to better medical care and reducing the risk of water contamination, this initiative is improving the quality of life for families in one of Honduras’ key coffee-growing regions, reaching around 95,000 people with direct and indirect services.
The support provided through this collaboration demonstrates the importance of partnerships in making a tangible difference in the lives of those who need it the most. With continued support, Clinica Materno Infantil can maintain its essential services and continue to provide crucial medical care to the local community.
